The Amherst Preschool offers developmental preschool programs for children ages three, four and five. We focus on educating the whole child – spirit, mind and body. We encourage child-led exploration, with teacher direction upon invitation. We recognize play as the foundation upon which all future academic development is built, while creating an environment which offers tools and opportunities for our students to explore and develop fundamental skills that provide the basis for life-long learning.
Three Year Old Program:

Tuesday & Thursday 12:15-3:15pm
Add Friday 8:30-11:30am to one of the schedules above
Our Three Year Old Program offers the children an opportunity to transition from home to school in a caring and stimulating atmosphere. The activities and child-led philosophy will allow the children to learn important social and self-help skills with a focus on kindness and collaboration. Each day, the program will be designed for child-led activities including offerings of art, sensory experiences, music and literature.
Four Year Old Program:
Monday, Wednesday, Friday 8:30-11:30am
Monday, Wednesday, Friday 12:15-3:15pm
Monday through Thursday 8:30-11:30am
Our Four Year Old Program offers the children an opportunity to grow and build upon their developing skills as members of a classroom community. Through continued hands-on exploration and play, the children will be exposed to a variety of educational experiences as they embark on their journey of learning. Collaboration and relationships will play an important role in building community. Kindergarten readiness skills will be explored with each child individually and in group activities through child-led play experiences. Further empowerment to become a self-directed student will be a focus as well.
The environment at The Amherst Preschool is designed for exploration, building community and interacting with nature. We are located on thirteen private acres where we are able to offer extensive time outside each day hiking our trail, exploring the woods and playing on our natural playground. Our indoor classrooms have been designed and furnished to ensure that every space is safe and accessible to the students. This usable space further encourages independence and self-reliance as the children learn to navigate and master their surroundings.
